2019: Russia entered the top ten countries where most use VPN services

Russia entered the top ten countries where most use VPN services. This is evidenced by the data of the Top10VPN portal, which specializes in the study of the relevant market, published at the end of November 2019.

Experts analyzed about 300 VPN applications hosted on Google Play and the App Store. The study covered 73 countries and was conducted over 12 months - from October 2018 to September 2019.

Russia entered the top ten countries where most use VPN services

Over this period of time, users around the world downloaded more than 480 million VPN applications, which is 54% more than a year earlier, when the volume of downloads was measured at 311 million.

Most of the installations of such software - 75% of the total - are accounted for by owners of Android devices. They downloaded 358.3 million applications that allow bypassing site locks. Owners of iPhone and tablets made 121.9 million downloads.

Indonesia is named the country with the most popular VPN services, where over a 12-month period, local residents downloaded about 75.5 million mobile VPN applications, which is 111% higher than a year ago.

The three leaders also included the United States and India, where 74.6 and 57 million downloads of such software were recorded, respectively. Russian users downloaded 10.9 million VPN applications over the year, which is 19% more than the 12-month period, the end of which fell in September 2018.

The jump in the number of downloads is especially pronounced in countries with unstable political situations. Compared to last year, the number of downloaded VPN applications in these regions has more than doubled, "said Simon Magliano, head of Top10VPN researchers.

It also follows from the Top10VPN report that 84.3% of the total number of downloads of VPN applications falls on free programs, and the most popular among users is the TurboVPN program, which was downloaded 51.3 million times.[1]

Of course, the fashion for cloud services could not but affect the VPN market. More and more large companies are investing in appropriate technologies.
