"System software" was transferred by Glavupdk at the MFA of Russia to the Astra Linux operating system

2019: Transition to Astra Linux Special Edition

On December 4, 2019 it became known that the System Software company completed in Federal State Unitary Enterprise The Head Production and Commercial Department on Service of Diplomatic Corps at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation a pilot project on import substitution of the operating system on servers of DPC, the systems of virtualization and information security. As an alternative to foreign software the solutions of Astra Linux developed by the Russian company "NPO Rusbitech" were selected.

The decision on start of a pilot project was made for increase in level of security, fault tolerance and performance of strategically significant information systems based on solutions 1C. The project was executed from July to November, 2019, its results influenced work of 600 employees Glavupdk at the MFA of Russia.

For creation of a failsafe complete cluster solution selection and joining of packets were executed of structure of Astra Linux Special Edition OS release Smolensk 1.6 with packets of the open source software. Within project implementation specialized settings of mandatory access for preserving of a circuit of cybersecurity in this solution are created. Besides, our specialists helped to execute "seamless" migration of test servers of the existing virtual server platform and IT infrastructure in the appeared solution circuit,

Astra Linux Special Edition has built in by the information security facility and is used for creation of the protected automated systems processing any confidential information up to documents under a security classification of "Special importance". Our operating system received necessary certificates of conformity to security requirements of information of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, FSTEC of Russia, FSB of Russia that became the defining factor when choosing import-independent OS for this project, commented Roman Mylitsyn, the director of a product of Astra Linux Group

Obeying the letter of the law, we carry systematically out import substitution of software products Glavupdk at the MFA of Russia. It was important to make test upgrade for us by forces of own specialists with involvement of the partner and with support of producers in the server block of the existing DPC. Within work on the project we substituted import software products, operating systems, means of virtualization and DBMS on alternative Russian solutions. At the same time, preserving of operability of the IC complex and migration of the available databases from import DBMS in PostgreSQL was important aspect. Achieved smooth operation by preliminary preparation, testing and debugging of systems in virtual environment and as soon as everything was ready and checked, began at night and on days off the ready systems to translate "in fighting" the mode. As result – users did not even notice transition within a test environment. Based on operation of this solution the concept on further import substitution of the used OS and software products will be developed, noted Alexander Reut, the director of the department of information technologies Glavupdk at the MFA of Russia
