2019: 2019: Theft and breakdown of 200 thousand bicycles

At the end of December Mobike reported that for the leaving 2019 the company lost about 205,600 bicycles because of vandalism and theft. The police arrested about 2600 people who tried to break or steal the property of the company.

The bicycles which are handed over for rent are intended for rather short trips around the cities. The user, completing lease, puts the bicycle on blocking. However some people take away them home or throw out to the rivers and canals.

The Mobike service has the system of points which encourages and punishes users for good and bad behavior. Violators are entered in the black list therefore it is forbidden to use service. On some users who behave in an unseemly way applications to the police are written.

By the end of 2019 the Chinese market of rolling of the bicycle is considered one of the largest in the world. In Beijing it is possible to rent 2.3 million such vehicles, Shanghai — 1.7 million, in Shenzhen — 890 thousand. In London, for comparison, offer for rent only 18 thousand bicycles, and in New York — 8 thousand.

In China there are almost no legislative restrictions for the companies which work in this sphere. At the same time there are enough plants to produce 80 million bicycles a year, and investors are ready to invest in such business model because see good perspectives.

The inspired by success in the homeland, Asian players already began promotion on the European markets. For example, bicycles of the Chinese company Mobike can be met in London, Paris and Milan. At the same time Mobike faces vandalism and thefts not only in China: because of these problems the startup was forced to stop work in the English Manchester. The local police recorded 87 cases of theft of bikes and opened 124 criminal cases on the damnification facts to property of Mobike or an arson.[1]
