In January, 2020 it became known that the German government will pay 800 thousand euros for expanded support (ESU) of Windows 7 after normal support of this operating system was stopped.

According to the Handelsblatt newspaper, by January 22, 2020 in the German parliament and other governmental bodies there are not less than 33 thousand computers running Windows 7. It is necessary to pay for support of each system separately, and expenses will depend on the version of software.

For the first year of updating for Windows 7 Enterprise there are $25 for one computer. In the second year the price will grow twice, in the third year it is already $100. In edition Windows 7 Pro of updating is even more expensive — $50, $100 and $200 in the first, second and third respectively.

According to the deputy representative of fraction "green" in Konstantin von Notz Bundestag, now responsibility that IT systems of department of the federal chancellor, the ministries and other state agencies were insufficiently protected lies on the federal government. Moreover, the quantity of the outdated systems actually can be more as the government does not possess information in full, the deputy chairman considers.

Service of thousands of computers is a difficult task as security risks, the malware, a software update, problems with the equipment and errors of users form almost infinite task list for administrators. Why the German government does not hurry to pass to fresher OS, there do not speak. However it is known that a part of computers nevertheless it is transferred to Windows 10, and process of transition continues.[1]
