Data centers (market of Sweden)

2020: A boom of data centers in Stockholm

By the end of January, 2020 the boom of the Scandinavian data processing centers came to a new round: three companies, Advania, Interxion and IP-Only, are going to build new platforms in Stockholm. After complete putting into operation new objects will be able to heat up to 35,000 nearby residential apartments due to recuperation of heat.

The city will pay owners of the center for this thermal energy which otherwise would be spent for nothing. Thus, firms receive an additional financial incentive for placement of the data processing centers in Sweden and other northern countries.

The boom of the Scandinavian data processing centers came to a new round: three companies, Advania, Interxion and IP-Only, are going to build new platforms in Stockholm

It is no wonder what on the Scandinavian Peninsula is planned or already such companies as Apple, Facebook, Google and Microsoft began to build data processing centers. It is known that Apple and Google invest $1 billion and €600 million, respectively, in data processing centers in Denmark, and Microsoft already set several platforms in Oslo and began to register suppliers for sale of the services in the region.

Data processing centers are filled with servers, generating heat therefore their placement in colder environment reduces expenses on ventilation. The more the difference between internal and external temperature, the less is required from cooling systems. But political stability in the country is important not less, than a geographical location. Besides, the country should provide excellent Internet communication or, at least, a possibility of establishing communication.

Also it should be noted that the Scandinavian countries offer to investors advantageous economic conditions to attract the capital to the country, and offer to the IT staff of the large companies excellent terms for life. Everything together allows the Scandinavian countries to remain the main applicants for placement of large data processing centers.[1]
