2020: Development of Pigweed OS

On February 6, 2020 it became known that the company Google submitted patent USA the application for registration trade of the Pigweed brand to department (USPTO). The user of Reddit under the alias Lgats detected it, and in its description its direct relation is mentioned to to operating systems.

At the time of the publication of material of Google never announced development of OS with the code or final name Pigweed. The application for registration of a trademark was submitted on January 31, 2020.

As noted in CNews, Pigweed became the second OS of the company with the "flower" name. So on -English call an amaranth – an annual grassy plant. At the disposal of Google also is not announced and not released "flower" yet Fuchsia OS (a fuchsia – engl.). For the first time she became known in August, 2016 when it source code it was published on portal GitHub.

Google keeps a secret any data concerning Pigweed – for February 6, 2020 only its name was known. A stage of its development, the sphere of future application and other parts – all this will probably become known later.

According to resource 9to5Google, the name Pigweed it was several times mentioned in other projects internet- the giant. For the first time this word was revealed in November, 2019 in operating system the Fuchsia code, then, in December, 2019 it was noticed in a repository browser Google Chrome. Any parts shedding light on Pigweed and its purpose in the found materials were absent.

It is not possible to determine possible date of a debut of Pigweed – pattern between terms of registration of a trademark and the announcement the related software and hardware solutions in a case with other products of Google is absent. For example, the Android Google brand was registered literally in five days prior to OS premiere in 2007, and by Chromebook – several months later from the moment of the beginning of deliveries of the first notebooks with Chrome OS in 2011.

At the same time Fuchsia OS still did not appear, however Google registered the corresponding trademark in the summer of 2017. Thus, to release of Pigweed there can be several days, and can – and several years, consider in CNews.^[1]
