Russians can now pay for coffee with their faces

2020: Start of biometric payment

On February 11, 2020 "Rostelecom", the bank Russian Standard Coffee Bean was also announced a project startup on implementation of biometric acquiring within which the visitors of coffee shops connected to the Single biometric system (EBS) will be able to pay the order by means of recognition of the person.

The network coffee shop Coffee Bean on Pyatnitskaya St., 5 became the first capital coffee shop accepting biometric payments using a Single biometric system. To the middle of 2020 biometric acquiring will be implemented in all coffee shops of CoffeeBean network.

Citizens can pay purchases with "one look" after registration of a digital image in a Single biometric system. For this purpose the potential buyer needs to hand over biometric data in one of the banks connected to a Single biometric system. This opportunity is available in 13.5 thousand departments of 232 banks (for February 11, 2002). Russian Standard began data collection of clients for EBS with fall of 2019.

Further, for carrying out payments it is necessary to tie bank card to the digital image. It can be done in application "Biometrics", developed by Rostelecom or in the application of the bank supporting function of payment of goods on the person. Right after it payment on biometrics of the person will be available.

For February 11, 2020 biometric payment is available to card holders World of Russian Standard bank. Until the end of the first quarter 2020 owners of other types of payment cards will be able to pay goods using a Single biometric system.^[1]

Together with Russian Standard bank we represent a payment system — using biometrics. It is enough to look in the camera near cash desk, and a system will automatically charge the amount off an account which you linked to the digital image in a Single biometric system. In the next years we are going to increase number of products and services which cornerstone the biometrics is. So, the similar system allowing to pay journey without presentation of the ticket and the bank card is already tested in the Moscow subway,

2019: The first biometric payment

The first biometric payment by means of data of a Single biometric system took place in October, 2019. Then Bank Russian Standard and Coffee Bean signed the memorandum of cooperation in development of biometric payments in Russia and implementation of the innovation payment method in network of CoffeeBean coffee shops.

The Russian Standard bank began collecting of biometric these clients for transfer to a Single biometric system with fall of 2019. The bank developed the platform for this project independently to provide additional security measures at record and data transmission.
