2021: PCIe 5.0 SSD CD7 E3.S Data Center Line Availability
On November 9, 2021, Kioxia Europe announced the launch of the Enterprise and Data Center (EDSFF) E3.S line of solid-state drives designed using PCIe 5.0 technology for data centers. They are optimized to provide more data density and improve performance. Kioxia's CD7 E3.S line represents the next level of Flash memory used in servers and data stores. Devices of the CD7 E3.S line are based on test samples of the SSD form factor E3.S, presented by Kioxia. They increase the density of flash memory per medium, which allows you to optimize the efficiency of energy consumption and the use of rack space.
The EDSFF E3.S form factor drives, free from the design constraints of the 2.5-inch form factor, are tailored to the needs of high-performance servers and storage systems. This form factor enables SSDs to be used for future data center architectures while supporting next-hand devices and use cases. It provides improved air circulation and thermal performance and improves signal integrity. E3.S support for higher power budgets than 2.5 "form factor drives and signal integrity enable EDSFF devices to deliver PCIe 5.0 performance.
Kioxia is a member of the EDSFF solution development team; the company works with server and storage developers to unlock the full potential of flash memory, as well as NVMe and PCIe technologies.

| "When we need media that can be adapted to optimize performance or capacity, the Kioxia E3.S SSDs, designed with PCIe 5.0 technology and conforming to the EDSFF form factor, offer cost savings for servers and storage, and enable flash memory chips to increase data density on SSDs," -}}
Key features of the CD7 E3.S series SSD:
- EDSFF E3.S form factor and capacity up to 7.68 TB;
- Designed to PCIe 5.0 specification and optimized for dual-line PCIe performance
- Using fewer PCIe lines increases the number of PCIe devices supported
- based on 3D TLC BiCS FLASH memory from Kioxia;
- Read up to 6450 MB/s and up to 1,050,000 IOPS on random read
- read and write delays are 75 μs and 14 μs, respectively, which is about 17% and 60% lower than the previous generation Kioxia solid-state drives with the PCIe 4.0 interface;
- The E3.S are integrated in the chassis, light-emitting diodes so their condition can be determined visually, and therefore there is no need to install additional LEDs, traditionally embedded in the carrier tray, which helps reduce the cost of the system.
On November 9, 2021, Kioxia sends samples of CD7 E3.S series drives to individual OEM customers.
2020: PCIe 4.0 SSD CD6 Series Data Center Line Availability
On March 2, 2020, Kioxia Europe announced that its PCIe 4.0 NVMe Enterprise and Data Center SSD (SSD) product line is now available for delivery to customers. The development of PCI Express 4.0 technology was aimed at doubling the performance of client, server and storage systems, providing data transfer speed up to 16.0 GT/s (gigatransfer per second per line), while guaranteeing new levels of performance for cloud and enterprise applications.
NVMe CM6 Series Enterprise Solid-State Drives
According to the manufacturer, the enterprise-class CM6 series SSDs manufactured by Kioxia are equipped with four PCIe 4.0 Gen4 x4 lines (or two ports in two lines) and support protocol NVMe 1.4, providing serial and random read/write performance up to 6.9 GB/s and up to 1.4 million I/O per second (IOPS). They have 2x better performance than their PCIe 3.0 predecessors and are 12 times faster than drives. SATA Developed for corporate applications and such yuzkace, as high-performance computing, artificial intelligence caching, financial trade analytics and data - CM6 Series is available up to 30.72 TB.
NVMe CD6 Series Solid-State Drives for Data Center
Solid-state drives for the Kioxia CD6 series data center are also equipped with four PCIe 4.0 Gen4 x4 lines, support NVMe 1.4, and are offered in a single-port configuration. They are designed for hyperscaled data centers, as well as general-purpose applications such as databases, cloud/container environments, web servers, and media streaming. The CD6 series will be available up to 15.36 TB, up to 6.2 GB/s bandwidth and 1.0 M I/O random access per second, Kioxia Europe emphasized.
According to March 2020, both the CM6 and CD6 series consist of 2 types: with resource 1 DWPD (full overwriting of the drive per day) and with resource 3 DWPD and include a wide range of security/encryption parameters . In addition, the presented solid-state drives received a PCI-SIG Workshop compliance certificate and are included in the list of UNH-IOL Integrator compatible with NVMe 1.4 devices, noted Kioxia Europe.
