2020: Upgrade of a management system for air traffic

On March 11, 2020 the SITA company reported that it accelerates implementation of innovations in the field of air traffic control within the Boeing program 2019 ecoDemonstrator together with key industry partners, including NASA and the old client of Etihad Airways.

According to the company, this program allows to test the innovation and most perspective technologies directed to the solution of questions of airlines and passengers, relevant for March, 2020, and also for increase in ecological and social sustainability. Similar technologies were implemented aboard by Boeing 777 within recent tests. Besides, tests took place in total 50 different projects.

SITA works together with Honeywell company on optimization of transmission methods and acceptance of digital information between pilots, bodies of the Department of Internal Affairs (air traffic control) and the command centers of airlines (AOC) using sets of the IPS Internet protocols. This technology confirms aspiration of Boeing corporation to tests of the technologies capable to increase flight safety and efficiency of air-transport activity with a possibility of cardinal improvement of communication of the ATC and continuous digital interchange.

Transition from protocols of ACARS to IPS after completion of successful tests can bring considerable benefit to airlines. Including it will allow to implement simultaneous data transmission and the digital speech on one main communication channel for the benefit of air traffic control and also to provide compatibility of 5G networks and to increase the level of information security.

For March, 2020 testing of similar opportunities by SITA company within an initiative of Boeing ecoDemonstrator plays an important role in development of air communication, especially in the conditions of the growing pressure upon traditional data transfer protocols.
