2020: Complete treatment from HIV
In March, 2020 it became known that the second time in the history completely recovered sick HIV. How it occurred, the group of researchers led by Ravindra Gupta from the Cambridge university reported.
The name of the patient who had HIV, but recovered, officially does not reveal. According to the edition the New York Times, the 40-year-old native of Venezuela Adam Castillejo became it. He had HIV infection since 2003, and in the 2012th the malignant lymphoma of Hodgkin (one of blood cancer forms) was diagnosed for him. To it replaced stem cells of marrow from the donor with a rare mutation which did it unreceptive to HIV.
In September, 2017 Adam Kastilyekho ceased to take the antiretroviral drugs. As a rule, only several weeks later after the termination of standard treatment the virus starts over again being multiplied. However in March, 2019 specialists reported that at Kastilyekho no symptoms of HIV within 18 months were revealed. In March, 2020 doctors announced long remission — the patient completely recovered from HIV.
Timothy Ray Brown, or "the Berlin patient" who underwent the procedure in 2007 for treatment of leukemia became the first patient who recovered from HIV infection.
According to doctors, both recovered from HIV of the patient are unique cases as, in addition to, a human immunodeficiency virus, they had other diseases because of which bone marrow transplantation was required. The technology is very difficult, and transaction high-risk.
Scientists also counted that the probability of lifelong remission at this patient is 98% on condition of a donor himerizm at the level of 80% in all cages affected by HIV and more than 99% — if the donor himerizm mentions 90% of cages.[1]
