Donald Cnut

Donald Ervin Knuth  is the American scientist, honorary professor of Stanford University and several other universities in the different countries, the teacher and the ideologist of programming, the author of 19 monographs (including a number of classical books on programming) and more than 160 articles, the developer of several known software technologies. Was born was born on January 10, 1938 in the city of Milwaukee (Wisconsin, the USA). The author of a world famous series of books devoted to the main algorithms and methods of calculus mathematics and also the creator of desktop publishing systems TEX and METAFONT intended for set and imposition of the books devoted to technical subject (first of all  — physical and mathematical).

Andrey Petrovich Yershov's works, afterwards his friend had a greater influence on young Donald Cnut.

It began still when I was a student of a last year. Then the book by Andrey "Programming for a high-speed electronic computer" only appeared, and we, group of students, could convince the teacher of Russian to include it in a rate as one of two collections of texts for studying of scientific lexicon.

Professor Cnut is conferred numerous awards and awards in the field of programming and calculus mathematics among which Turing's award (1974), National scientific medal (1979) and AMS Steele Prize for a series of popular scientific articles, Awards Kyoto (1996) for achievements in the field of advanced technologies, Award of Grace Murray Hopper (1971).
