2020: Cracking of a hosting and shutdown of 7600 websites
On March 25, 2020 it became known of next — the second in 16 months — Daniel's Hosting cracking. Because of shutdown of the largest free hosting in the Darknet of 7600 websites of "the shadow Internet" failed.
According to ZDNet, a certain malefactor deleted all database and also an account of the owner of Daniel's Hosting on the night of March 10, 2020.
According to Daniel's Hosting developer of Daniel Winzen, the problem was detected only for the morning therefore it was not succeeded to save files, and backup copies were not.
In a conversation with ZDNet Vinzen reported that he does not know yet how malefactors got access to the server. As Daniel's Hosting for the developer is no more, than just than a hobby, it not too attended to examination.
I am very busy with the personal cares and other projects to devote time to investigation. I am engaged in this project in time, free from the main work, which is hardly enough for "cleaning" of the server from fraudulent and illegal content — he reported, having added that only removal of accounts borrows it in 10 times more of time in comparison with project development. |
Daniel Vinzen emphasizes that cracking did not affect accounts of the users placing the resources on DH, but nevertheless advises to consider the incident as date leak and recommends to the former clients to change passwords (if they use the same combinations of credentials for different resources).
He intends to restart in the future service with new features and improvements, however does not call specific terms, noting only that "it can take months". To the clients the programmer recommended to use the competing services, including Freedom Hosting Reloaded, Ablative Hosting, Onehost and IBHost.[1]
