Gael Duval

Gael Duval is the founder of MandrakeSoft company. Created the Mandrake distribution kit as a branch from Red Hat and turned the project into the profitable company selling box versions. Having hardly left a bankruptcy status, purchased Conectiva, Edge-IT and Lycoris which became a part of one large company Mandriva.

Biography, career

Was born in 1973. Graduated from the Kayensky University in France where studied networks and applications. In July, 1998 created the Mandrake Linux distribution kit. Duval was responsible for communications in management of the company, was not dismissed by the management in March, 2006 yet. Since 2007 Duval is the chairman of the board of directors and the head of department of developments of Ulteo.

Dismissal from Mandriva

The founder of Mandrake Linux Gael Duval disclosed details of the dismissal from Mandriva. As it appears from his words, he just got laid off, and financing of its activity as the director of the department of communications with community was referred to "nonbasic costs and expenses". As Duval claims, its cool personal relations with the current president of the company could play not the last role in this dismissal. Besides, the chain of dismissals in which 18 more employees were involved was accompanied by additional reperssiya. In particular Duval and the dismissed employees were deprived of life membership in Mandriva Club ^[1]

Today Duval is completely absorbed by the next Linux project — the Ulteo operating system.
