2020: Beginning of use of the platform

In April, 2020 MegaFon implemented the platform of caching of data Multi‑CDN  for viewing "heavy" content without delays at peak load on network. The operator developed this technology independently.

MegaFon began to use Multi‑CDN    in addition to  the existing system of the content delivery provided 17  datacentram. As a result of updating total capacity of a CDN system reached 400 Gbps. It will allow to browse content big the number of users at  the raised load of  network, the CEO of "Megalabs" (IT - "subsidiary" of MegaFon) Andrey Kushnarev said.

As declared in the company, Multi‑CDN significantly increases quality of work of service and  reduces delays at  video playback, especially when  broadcasting Tvkanalov in   the HD format in  peak busy hours. A system  in real time caches more than 200  Tvkanalov and  in one step stores over 250  Tbyte of video content.

The new technology will allow subscribers to receive video content from  the servers located  in close proximity to  the region of the subscriber. The most noticeable these improvements will be for  users of Siberia and  the Far East.

MegaFon updated the infrastructure in response to the strong growth of load of networks in the conditions of a pandemic of a coronavirus of COVID-19 because of which many people stay at home and aktivn use the Internet. In  the second half   of March, 2020 traffic  of Megafon TV service increased by  30%. The biggest growth showed content for  the young audience  — the number of watchings animated films and  cinema for  children and  teenagers grew by  40%. Interest in  news in  Russia Tvkanalov increased number of viewings.

The representative of MegaFon Mikhail Ivonin said that at the end of 2020 the amount of traffic of video service can increase twice.^[1]
