Itella cut down expenses on IT with new Wi-Fi based on mesh-technologies from Oberon

2020: Migration of Wi-Fi-network on new architecture

On April 15, 2020 it became known that the company Itella together with system integrator Oberon implemented the project on migration Wi-Fi- network on other architecture using mesh-technologies without interruption in providing service. The developed solution provided the most reliable and high-speed exchange data that allowed to increase quality of the provided services on warehouse complexes transport-logistic the companies.

Itella annually performs processing more than 1.5 million tons of a load on the platforms, providing warehousing services, transport services and individual logistic solutions. Business processes of the supplier of logistics and warehousing services require smooth operation of IT infrastructure including Wi-Fi coverings: the mobile terminals of data collection (TDC) for scanning of loads and containers should be connected to an internal data network through Wi-Fi in regime of Real-time. The previous network infrastructure was constructed a few years ago, and data transfer rate ceased to satisfy to the actual loading from terminal units, stability of a signal was required to be increased.

By experts of Oberon company it was designed, unrolled and the innovation Wi-Fi-network based on mesh technology is seamlessly started. Compliance to all requirements of business provided the solution HPE Aruba Instant which allows to unroll "beskontrollerny" network Wi-fi of the corporate level. Such cluster from access points by means of the virtual controller which is placed on one of them (IAP) is controlled.

The project is implemented in three geographically distributed warehouse Itella complexes in the Moscow region with a total area of 200 thousand sq.m. For this purpose the non-standard approach to a solution architecture caused by a landscape of warehouse platforms was necessary. That the covering remained stable and qualitative, it was necessary to consider features of numerous mezzanines, refrigerating, etc. equipment indoors, additional partitions and raznovysotny constructions, including the filled warehouse racks.

As a result the created network included 270 access points that allowed to increase significantly quality of a covering and its square at 20%. The number of requests about problems with access of devices to the corporate data network (CDN) significantly decreased. Our specialists integrated the updated network into the existing hyper convergent infrastructure of the company that allowed to reduce considerably the volume of the physical equipment for warehouse platforms, notes Alexander Batyrev, the commercial director of Oberon

Using the solution with mesh-technology we reduced costs for support of infrastructure of Wi-fi and considerably increased quality of the provided service. The investment in the innovative technologies allowed business of Itella to save more than 9 million rubles a year after project completion. Thus, we learned to spend business resources not just for IT, and for smart technological solutions which give to production the chance to work more steadily.
