On April 22, 2020 it became known that Palantir signed the first contract with Air Force Space Command within which the company will equip with the modern software the Center of the space-rocket systems.
The center of the space-rocket systems of Air Force Space Command monitors objects in a terrestrial orbit and watches movements of objects in near-earth space. In 2019 armed forces announced intention to upgrade the center as the software used in it was released several decades ago.
The project of upgrade received the name Kobayashi Maru — in honor of the program of testing of pilots in series "Star Trek".
Palantir was selected by the supplier Consortium of the space enterprises — the organization created in 2017 for attraction on the military market of startups and other nonconventional organizations.
The consortium uses other scheme of purchases different from that which is usually used in the defense sphere. Organization members whom as of April, 2020 there are about 360 receive applications for participation in biddings. Then on each project one or several candidates are selected. These candidates develop further prototypes of solutions. If the prototype is approved by consortium, the candidate becomes a contractor.
Within the Kobayashi Maru project space forces of the USA will receive a reliable and flexible set of technologies for stream transfer and storage of data. The supplier should provide software licenses and render professional services on implementation and user training if it is required — contains in the project description, prepared by consortium. |
Palantir will become not the only solution provider for the Kobayashi Maru project. As expected, other companies also will join it.[1]
