2020: Start of SD-WAN technology within Managed VPN service

On May 28, 2020 PJSC MTS announced start on own infrastructure of SD-WAN technology within Managed VPN service.

The service "the Managed VPN" allows to integrate logically several communication channels, automatically in real time to redistribute loading between channels for ensuring smooth operation and to perform setup of the equipment of the client in all branches from one point of management. Thanks to SD-WAN technology (Software Defined Wide Area Network; software-defined networks within a global network with intellectual management of traffic and a uniform point of management) net surfers will have an opportunity to perform service quality monitoring independently in a personal account or to configure notifications on a certain event. Besides, they will be able quickly to connect and disconnect new points in one click that is not provided by traditional VPN.

For connection of service it is optional to net surfer to have own equipment or to invest in its purchase. MTS proposes "turnkey" solution from three working days in time. The equipment enters service and includes including a complex of monitoring of its work that the client could understand independently that does not work, in case of breakdown. Service allows to create basic settings of network in a personal account and further to apply them on the terminal equipment of the client.

For network management of any size using "the Managed VPN" the company has enough one or two specialists therefore the service will help business to save significantly not only on the equipment, but also on technical support.

By the end of this year MTS is going to increase sales twice concerning the level of last year. The number of users who through VPN work from the house in the self-isolation mode in two last months grew up many times. The company calculates that during lifting of restrictions and after it also growth of connection of new offices to this service will be resumed.

The solution VMware SD-WAN by VeloCloud is available to acquisition in Russia through the authorized partners of VMware and providers of cloud services in the VMware Cloud Provider Program program. It is impossible to call the service offered MTS unique - any large telecom operator or cloud provider can start similar service at the capacities. For the first time the similar solution on management of VPN in network of the operator and SD-WAN in Russia was tested in 2015-2016 in Rostelecom. At the same time it can work only in network of this operator. More universal solutions from the large vendors working in this segment are demanded. Experts predict increase in demand for service and growth of penetration of SD-WAN-solutions first of all among large customers (Large Accounts).
