2020: Smartphone Announcement

In June 2020, Huawei introduced the Honor Play 4 Pro smartphone. Its feature was the presence of an infrared sensor that allows non-contact measurement of body temperature.

The IR sensor, which is located in the rear camera module, is capable of reading the surface temperature from -20 ° C to 100 ° C and can measure it to an accuracy of one tenth. To make measurements, you need to bring the phone to your forehead or wrists. During the period of the coronavirus pandemic COVID-19, this function becomes especially popular in everyday life. However, as the publication ArsTechnica warns, a smartphone may not produce  exactly accurate data, inferior to a degree gauge or thermal imager.

Previously, smartphones of this plan had already been released, but they were niche, for example, the Cat S60 with a thermal imaging camera. The IR sensor is not as accurate as the camera, but it is cheap enough, and it is already integrated into smartphones as part of face unlocking functions and for improved camera performance.

Honor Play 4 Pro is equipped with a 6.57-inch LCD display, a Kirin 990 processor with a clock speed of 2.86 GHz, a 16-core graphics chip and a 4200 mAh battery.

The device also received two cameras on the rear panel, but they are special. The main module is the Sony IMX600 with a resolution of 40 MP and a RYYB filter. Honor claims that it captures 40% more light than traditional sensors and can raise the ISO to 204,800.

The second camera provides 3-fold optical magnification (as well as 5-fold hybrid and 30-fold digital magnification), has optical image stabilization (OIS) and takes 8-megapixel photos. A laser system is provided for autofocus. The smartphone can record 4K-video with a frame rate of 60 k/s.

By June 11, 2020, Honor Play 4 Pro  is available for pre-order at a price of about $410.[1]
