2020: Replacement of payphone boxes by defibrillators
In the middle of June, 2020 the main telephone company of Israel stated that it intends to cooperate with service of ambulance of the country to replace payphone boxes with stations with defibrillators.
Bezeq Israel Telecom reported that they will be transformed from several tens to several hundred payphone boxes. Part of them already turned into bright yellow boxes with the defibrillators placed inside. At cardiac arrest and fibrillation of ventricles, life-threatening, the trained person can use this device to recover normal warm reductions. Defibrillators generate a short high-voltage impulse which causes complete reduction of a myocardium, and such "reset" in many cases allows to recover a normal sinus rhythm.
Thus, if on the street of people saw the fallen person and suspects heart attack, he can call services of the emergency help number. The specialist will direct to him the ambulance and will report coordinates of the next cabin of a defibrillator. In a normal situation the defibrillator is locked and can be open only using the code which is also reported by the specialist. Courses on use of a defibrillator will be conducted together with courses of the first pre-medical aid and warm resuscitation.
Bezeq Israel Telecom tried to get rid long ago of payphones which are practically not used, but require expensive service. "Once public phones were absolutely necessary for the population, but, naturally, with development of technologies they ceased to be used, and we are glad that in a new form they will be able to save lives", said in the statement of the company.
The plan of complete replacement of payphone boxes for defibrillators still needs final approval from regulating authorities.[1]
