2020: Product yield
In the middle of June, 2020 the Canonical company started the Ubuntu Appliance project intended for deployment of server platforms on personal computers, including on single-board Raspberry Pi devices.
As it is specified in the press release, the initiative of Ubuntu Appliance provides to community Linux the new class of modifications Ubuntu created by Canonical company and intended for Raspberry Pi in cooperation with the known Open Source projects, such as Nextcloud, OpenHAB, Mosquitto and AdGuard.
Assemblies are presented in the form of specialized hardware images which you can install on the single board computer Raspberry Pi instantly to turn it into the protected intelligent device which is automatically updated and executes that it is necessary for you. If you have no Raspberry Pi, Appliance also works on the PC — it is reported on the project website. |
Assemblies it is constructed on the basis of Ubuntu Core and the preconfigured thematic snap-packets. Ubuntu Core represents the compact option of the Ubuntu distribution kit instead of traditional deb-packets using model of monolithic creation of an image of a basic system over which self-sufficient superstructures in the snap format are started. In the platform the mechanism of atomic updating of snap-packets and a basic system is used.
For security each component of a system is verified according to the digital signature that allows to protect a distribution kit from introduction of the hidden modifications or installation of unchecked snap-packets. The components delivered in the Snap format are isolated through AppArmor and Seccomp, and the basic file system is mounted in a read-only mode. Updates are released regularly and are delivered in the OTA mode (over-the-air).[1]
