2020: Announcement of DWH of Dell EMC PowerScale
On June 22, 2020 the Dell Technologies company announced family of the storage systems Dell EMC PowerScale setting industry standards of collecting and use of unstructured data, such as documents, images, video and content on social networks.
"It is expected that by 2024 volume stored by the companies in the form of files or data objects will treble, and yet there are no signs of deceleration of rates of its growth. During an era of data the convenient and economic method of storage and use of unstructured data is necessary for the enterprises for acceleration of an output of products to the market. The family of the solutions Dell EMC PowerScale provides to the companies the platform for extraction of benefit from the data irrespective of where these data are", 'Dan Inbar, the president and the general data storage manager of Dell Technologies noted' |
As noted in Dell Technologies, at the heart of Dell EMC PowerScale – operating system OneFS. The PowerScale family includes the PowerScale nodes based on PowerEdge 1U (All-Flash and NVMe), the existing diskless nodes Isilon on flash memory, the hybrid and archive Isilon nodes working running the PowerScale OneFS 9.0 operating system.
According to the developer, PowerScale provides performance necessary for clients for work with exacting workloads - problems of AI, analytics, IoT, digital media and health care. A system can execute up to 15.8 million input-output operations per second (IOPS) on a cluster, and the PowerScale F200 nodes which are completely constructed on a flash memory work five times quicker than the previous version. The built-in compression and deduplication of data does this platform six times to more productive.
Deployment of PowerScale can be begun with small and to gradually increase a system to petabyte capacity. At the same time, according to the developer, she remains convenient in operation:
- Scaling without interruption of services: clusters of PowerScale it is possible to scale from 11 TB to 60 PB of "crude" capacity and millions of transactions with files without interruption of services or expensive idle times. Nodes are added to PowerScale, or to the existing Isilon cluster in only 60 seconds.
- Intellectual automation. Thanks to intellectual horizontal scaling of PowerScale optimum distributes resources that clients could receive good performance in a cluster.
- Fault tolerance and effectiveness: thanks to flexible politicians of data protection the utilization coefficient of formatted capacity in a cluster of PowerScale reaches 85%, and a system can maintain failures even of several nodes.
- Programmable infrastructure: Thanks to support of a number of frameworks of management and orchestration of containers, such as Kubernetes and Ansible, customers can optimize application development and reduce terms of their deployment.
According to the statement of Dell Technologies, the software of Dell EMC DataIQ helps the companies to take from unstructured data which usually are not classified and stored separately on all enterprise, benefit for business. Software of DataIQ provides uniform data view (files and objects) which are stored both in Dell EMC storage systems, and in the systems of third-party vendors and public cloud storages. Customers can control the data, provide access to them to the corresponding specialists and productively use the investments, providing data storage in the corporate environment at the necessary level.
The software of monitoring and the analysis of infrastructure of Dell EMC CloudIQ combines machine learning and human intelligence, providing to customers of a possibility of performance review and capacity of storage in real time and also tracking of historical data. It allows to gain a uniform impression about Dell EMC infrastructure.
According to the developer, PowerScale supports different network protocols, and clients can use multidisciplinary access (file, object, analytics) for simultaneous access of different annexes to a uniform repository.
- Any applications: PowerScale OneFS 9.0 provides multiprotocol support, including support of S3 for the modern applications using the object cloud storage. Additional support of such protocols as NFS, SMB and HDFS allows clients to start a large number of traditional and modern applications without problems with compatibility.
- Flexible deployment: The solution PowerScale is unrolled both in data processing centers, and in branches or within multicloud strategy. Compact execution 1U and the minimum cluster size when using the All-Flash F200 and NVMe PowerScale F600 nodes do it by an optimal variant for terminal installations.
- Support of several clouds: PowerScale for Multi-cloud can be connected directly to the main public clouds as managed service. Such solution is suitable for the clients wishing to move to a cloud or to unroll exacting applications in a cloud. Clients of Google Cloud who want to save time and to simplify management, can select Dell Technologies Cloud PowerScale for Google Cloud – the cloud service combining performance, scalability and unification of work of PowerScale with profitability of Google Cloud.
As of June, 2020 Dell EMC PowerScale OneFS 9.0, the PowerScale nodes and software of DataIQ are already available to the order around the world.
