CAPP

CAPP (Computer-Aided Process Planning) is an automated system for design of technical processes and execution of technology documentation. In Russia it is accepted to call such systems TP CAD (an automated design engineering system of technology processes) or AS of TPPP (automated systems of technology preparation of production). CAPP is the interactive environment filled with databases on materials, a range, the equipment, technology equipment and the other reference information. Modern CAPP include settlement modules on the technology modes and regulation and also setup under specialized document forms.

Tasks and CAPP functions

Tasks of CAPP

The task of CAPP is in that on the set CAD model of a product to make the plan of its production called by the operational or route chart. This plan contains instructions on the sequence of technology and assembly transactions, the used machines and tools, etc. Technology preparation of production is always performed on the available database of the standard technical processes applied at the specific enterprise. Depending on approach to the automated technology preparation of a task of CAPP can differ a little. There are two approaches - modified (alternative) and generative. At the modified approach the problem of a CAPP system consists in search of the most similar product in the existing database and to presentation of its operational card for modification. At the modified approach the group technology allowing to carry out classifications of parts to families of similar widely is applied. Generative approach consists in recognition at a part of standard structural elements and application to them standard technical processes (turning, drilling, etc.)

CAPP functions

  • Development of the description of technical process of production of a new product.
  • Formation of technology documentation.
  • Calculation of costs of time for transactions.
  • Determination of labor input of production of a product.
  • Flow calculation of materials.
  • Formation of the organizational and technology scheme of a flow on production of a product.
  • Choice of a rational clock period of a flow and number of contractors.

Use of CAPP

As a rule CAPP is used together with CAD- and CAM systems.

Such integrated system at the information level is supported by the single database. In it information on structure and geometry of a product (as result of design is stored in the CAD system), about manufacturing techniques (as result of system operation of CAPP) and managing programs for the CNC equipment (as an original informatin for processing in the CAM system on the CNC equipment)

Advantages of CAPP

The main economic results received from implementation of CAPP:

  • performance improvement of work of the technologist;
  • reduction of number of errors at design;
  • quality improvement of work of the technologist;
  • reduction of terms of technology preparation of production;
  • increase in efficiency of receiving up-to-date information from the designed technology processes;
  • accumulation and application of the knowledge base of the enterprise for process design of new products
  • organization of uniform directory space for technologists and designers and also services of production management;
  • improvement of control of performing activity.

Examples of CAPP

  • SPRUT-TP - automated design and regulation of technology processes for any types of productions.

  • Eleandr CAPP is automated design of manufacturing techniques of garments.

  • ADEM is automated design in the different fields of mechanical engineering.
