VTB won against Sberbank fight for the contract on contactless payments on a tourniquet in the Moscow subway

On July 9, 2020 it became known that VTB won against Sberbank fight for the contract on contactless payments of travel by the Moscow subway. The winner offered more competitor for 3 million rubles.

VTB became the winner of competition on rendering services in the organization of acceptance of bank cards on infrastructure SUE Moscow Metro and SUE Mosgortrans, Interfax with reference to procurement documentation of the Moscow Department for Competition Policy reports.

Tender on the organization of acceptance of cards with the contactless interface and electronic payment instruments with technology of contactless payment on infrastructure of Subway, Moscow Central Ring (MCR) and SUE Mosgortrans was announced in May, 2020. This project the customer aims to increase service quality of passengers due to expansion of available payment methods of journey, to reduce number of addresses of passengers, including non-residents, in ticket offices of Moscow Metro, MTsK and Mosgortrans and also to reduce costs of these structures on release of own booking carriers.

The starting price of the three-year contract was 722.7 million rubles. Sberbank (offered 617.9 million rubles) and VTB (614.3 million rubles) which was recognized by the winner of competition participated in an auction. The results of an auction were summed up on July 8, 2020.

It is possible pay journey using the bank card or the smartphone via the terminal on a tourniquet at all stations of the Moscow subway now.

Pay journey using contactless technology quicker, than purchase the ticket in cash desk without queue, and then reach a tourniquet. Especially such method is convenient in morning and evening rush hours — the deputy mayor's words Moscow Maxim Liksutov are cited in the message.

According to him, passengers will be able to save about eight minutes a day, paying journey with the bank card or the smartphone.[1]
