History
The building of institute was built in 1843 — 1847 on the project of the architect Garald of Julius Bosse for the graph A.A. Zakrevsky in style the neorenaissance. The main motive of composition of facades — a dummy joint. At the beginning of the 1870th the house passed to the graph P.A. Zubov.
The institute was founded in 1912 by the graph V.P. Zubov on a sample of the German Institute of art history in Florence. V.P. Zubov placed organization in own mansion.
