History

The building of institute was built in 1843 — 1847 on the project of the architect Garald of Julius Bosse for the graph A.A. Zakrevsky in style the neorenaissance. The main motive of composition of facades — a dummy joint. At the beginning of the 1870th the house passed to the graph P.A. Zubov.

The institute was founded in 1912 by the graph V.P. Zubov on a sample of the German Institute of art history in Florence. V.P. Zubov placed organization in own mansion. After the October revolution Zubov gave the mansion to the new government and the institute became state. Yu.N. Tynyanov, B.M. Eykhenbaum, B.V. Asafyev, V.M. Zhirmunsky, A.V. Preobrazhensky and other famous literary critics, musicologists were a staff of institute.
