On July 13, 2020 it became known of that, three cellular operators - Telefónica (Spain), Deutsche Telekom (Germany) and Vodafone (Great Britain) - completed testing and began full to use a solution blockchain which will allow in the automatic mode of a message calculations for payments for roaming. It is supposed that this project will reduce capital costs and will provide more operational accounting of profit and mutual calculations.
All three telecommunication companies in 2019 took part in testing a solution blockchain from Clear. The technology allowed to receive results of annual calculations in only several minutes and also to separately analyze information on possible discrepancies in dismissed and. Besides, operators had an opportunity to instantly update data and if necessary to enter amendments into the system.
The vice president for commercial roaming in Deutsche Telekom Johannes Opitz noted that implementation of roaming agreements is difficult and rather expensive process in which a large number of errors is not excluded. The solution blockchain from Clear allows operators to interact with partners freely. Such advantage is represented extremely important for an ecosystem of a 5G and Edge where, according to forecasts, rapid development of business relations within the next several years will be observed.
After personal testing of technology from Clear all three companies urge other providers to join the project, hoping that automatic calculations in roaming will be a quite good incentive for start of new partnership.
Meanwhile the CEO of Vodafone Roaming Services Cherif Baquir paid attention that support of the innovative technologies, in particular a 5G and IoT and also courageous solutions in roaming should bring digitalization to new level. The project is an excellent example of advantages of blockchain technology, its participants reported.[1]
