The good IT consultant is distinguished by the whole set of factors — the personal qualities, motives, working experience, knowledge and skills, behavioural characteristics determined by the purpose, a zadannost of a situation and a position. All this in total also makes competences.
The IT consultant should be a specialist in the area — whether it be programming, business process reengineering, implementation of the IC or development of IT strategy. Professional knowledge and skills remain the main requirements defining efficiency of its work. Requirements to professional knowledge and skills are formulated for a certain position and include experience and length of service, education, special conditions, etc. Often they are defined for participants of a project team depending on the specific project and a solvable task.
Basic competences are additional requirements regarding the IT consultant's assessment. Practice shows that from IT consultants big resistance to stress is required, ability to be guided quickly in new situations, readiness for business trips, capability to communicate much with the most different people and some other necessary qualities.
One more feature of IT specialists — permanent increase in the professional grade. In many respects it is connected with the fact that the IT field is extremely dynamic: numerous and fast changings depreciate the previous knowledge and experience. Therefore to the IT specialist as for very few people to another, regular additional training, studying of publications and self-education are necessary.
