U.S. authorities ordered from Becton Dickinson 140 million devices for injections

At the end of July, 2020 the Becton Dickinson company received the new order for deliveries of needles and syringes from the USA and Canada. Because of a pandemic of a coronavirus of COVID-19 and the future vaccination medical institutions needed 177 million more devices.

U.S. authorities ordered 140 million injection devices therefore the total quantity of the orders received by BD company from the American medical institutions reached 190 million Canada ordered in addition 37 million devices, and the blanket order BD reached the volume of 75 million devices. In total for 2020 BD received the order for 330 million needles and syringes from the USA, Canada and Great Britain. All devices will be delivered by the end of 2020 waiting for approval of vaccine against COVID-19.

The company considers that inflow of orders will not be able to exhaust its production capacities. So far Becton Dickinson successfully copes with customer requirements on additional production of needles and syringes.

The active measures taken by such countries as the USA, Canada and Great Britain will help them to be prepared for the future program of vaccination. It will be carried out at the end of 2020 or at the beginning of 2021 as soon as candidate vaccine is ready and approved, - the president on solutions of delivery of the drugs BD Rick Byrd said. - BD undertakes to produce hundreds of millions of needles and syringes to the appointed term to take away threat of COVID-19. Thereby we confirm the commitment to community of health workers who fight against a pandemic.

At the beginning of July, 2020 BD announced that the Management on the advanced research and development in the field of biomedicine at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services invests $42 million for accumulation of production rates. The government also purchased hundreds of thousands of tests for COVID-19 antigen at BD within the transaction announced on July 15.[1]
