2020: Data Governance system implementation

The VTB bank announced on July 22, 2020 end of the first stage of system implementation of Data Governance that it will allow to accelerate processes of the business analysis and the subsequent development on its basis.

This system will allow to classify more effectively data of bank and on a centralized basis to manage them. Analysts, data scientists, IT specialists and other employees of the bank will be able quicker to check quality and reliability of corporate data.

The bank will have an opportunity to accelerate segmentation of client data, to develop more personalized offers, to develop a partner ecosystem and to quicker bring products and services to the market. Also a system will allow to reduce terms of preparation of reports of VTB for regulatory bodies.

The Data Governance system includes three modules of data management.

The first module – the business glossary or the directory of the business terms uniform for all bank. For the first nine months of the project the description more than 3,700 terms was loaded into the business glossary. Further it is going to add more than 1,500 attributes a year.

The second module – the directory of metadata, data on data. The solution visualizes lifecycle of data: shows where they were created where are moved in what systems are stored. Using the directory, now it is possible to update quicker IT systems and to analyze data. The directory is already connected to 16 systems sources and more than 66 thousand tables are loaded into it. Further these indicators are going to be increased.

The third module – the module of ensuring quality of data. It will help specialists of VTB to obtain more exact data for reports and analytics.

Within strategy implementation of digital transformation of VTB it was important to us to adjust uniform process of work with data. System implementation of data structure will allow to accelerate not only business processes in bank, but also our clients will quicker see changes in quality of the provided services and services.

The project was implemented together with DIS Group company. All modules are implemented based on the Informatica tools.

During operation with this project the techniques recommended by the international experts in the field of Data Governance were used, – Pavel Likhnitsky, the CEO of DIS Group shared. – At the same time the scale of the project and those conversions which are carried out to VTB: management practice by data become a part of processes of changes of products, business processes, an IT landscape of bank.
