2020: The organization of distance learning using cloud infrastructure of Rostelecom

On July 28, 2020 the Rostelecom company reported that it provided cloud infrastructure within service "A virtual data processing center" to universities of the Southern Federal District based on which in short terms online training of students and other remote services was organized. Contracts are signed with the Stavropol state medical university, the Volgograd state social and pedagogical university, the Kuban state medical university, the Pyatigorsk state university. In the pilot mode the Volgograd Russian Interior Ministry Academy and "Institute of development of education" of the Astrakhan region also use virtual cloud infrastructure of the company.

According to the company, universities use resources of Virtual DPC for the organization of a system of remote education (a total quantity of students for July, 2020 — more than 21 thousand). On cloud infrastructure of Rostelecom the systems of a video conferencing and distance learning, and the platform for interaction with students and entrants and also object storages for placement of educational resources and libraries were unrolled. For crucial information systems reservation was organized. In total educational institutions for July, 2020 involved more than 7 TB of virtual disk space.

For July, 2020 the coronavirus pandemic sharply set the task in short terms to organize training in a remote format for universities. Together with educational institutions we defined several main areas of work: from remote order taking from entrants before ensuring directly educational process in an online format and providing a uniform information field of educational institutions. Then proposed to customers the solution, optimal under these tasks, based on cloud infrastructure Rostelecom. Alexander Obukhov, the director of cloud services of Rostelecom told

the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation on the organization of educational activity in propagation conditions of a koronavirusny infection induced many educational institutions, including and our university, quickly to resolve an issue of the organization of distance learning. Thanks to colleagues from Rostelecom, we could define and implement solutions in short terms and by that to provide the continuity of educational process.
