2022: In Russia, created GOST for alcoholes in cars. They will work in tandem with video cameras

In early May 2022, it became known about the creation in Russia of GOST "Motor Vehicles. Driver Condition Monitoring Systems. " We are talking about the so-called alcoholes - devices using which the ability to drive a car through an exhalation check is blocked.

According to Kommersant, citing a document developed by the NAMI Research Automobile and Automotive Institute, the monitoring system built into alcohol locks will transmit data to "external consumers" - for example, a motor vehicle enterprise, regional authorities and traffic police inspectors. It is assumed that if the driver plugs the engine (for example, when stopping for a couple of minutes), then he will not have to undergo control again.

In early May 2022, it became known about the creation in Russia of GOST "Motor Vehicles. Driver Condition Monitoring Systems "

Alcoholism will prevent the beginning of movement when detecting intoxication. It is assumed that if the driver plugs the engine (for example, when stopping for a couple of minutes), then he will not have to undergo control again.

The driver will have to confirm his identity using a camera, after which he will undergo an exhalation check. The possibility of both contactless and contact air bleed is provided. The publishing house clarifies that the minimum volume of air exhaled into the alcohol lock is 1.2 liters, and it should take no more than 15 seconds to check. True, the function of remote disconnection of the alcohol lock in case of emergency situations is provided.

It is assumed that the alcohol lock will be installed on cars (cars, trucks and buses), whose owners were previously punished for drunk driving.

Experts interviewed by the publication noticed that the GOST created does not provide for cases if a motorist will drink alcohol while driving. They also noted that it is not yet clear who will pay for the installation and verification of alcoholes, as well as for data traffic, despite the fact that in recent months, road carriers, on the contrary, are trying to reduce costs against the background of rising costs of spare parts and leasing cars.[1]

2020: Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation creates a project for the mass introduction of alcoholes in cars

At the end of July 2020, it became known that the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation is creating a project for the mass introduction of alcohol in cars. Such devices block the ignition of the machine when alcohol is detected.

According to Kommersant, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has drawn up an action plan for the coming months: by October 1, 2020, a general concept for the introduction of such devices should be developed, and by December 31, a set of measures to stimulate automakers when introducing locks into serial models is presented.

The publication says that the initiative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade has several significant problems. Firstly, the appearance of alcohol on a new car will affect its cost, since the price of the device and its installation companies will have to "sew" into the price tag of the car. Alcohol prices for different manufacturers range from 25,000 to 120,000 rubles, Kommersant points out.

Secondly, there are frequent cases of erroneous actuation of the blocking system. It is also necessary to exclude situations when the alcohol lock blocks the engine during movement. In addition, it is not clear what to do with the fact that the device can not be a driver, but any other sober person.

According to Vyacheslav Lysakov, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on State Building, in the theory of alcoholism, it is too early to put drivers who are drunk driving on cars, but it is too early to talk about the mass use of these devices, since there is neither a regulatory framework, nor standards, nor infrastructure for servicing devices.

While all this looks like drones and flying taxis. Someday we will come to this, but so far we are running ahead. If alcoholes are delivered at the expense of automakers, this will lead to higher prices for cars. Why should a driver who does not drink at all pay for alcohol on top?, "he said.[2]
