Management of equipment downtimes

Management of equipment downtimes (DTM – Downtime Management) - the business process allowing to analyze the specific reasons of a stop or reduction in the rate of operation of the equipment. Actually - process of management of idle times which comes down to collection of information about time when the equipment did not work or worked with the lowered speed or quality, to the analysis of the reasons and development of the program of increase in efficiency.

Equipment downtimes

To find approach to this problem, it is important to represent a situation to a single timepoint for each line: whether there is it in the middle of production whether raw materials are expected, whether reconfiguration of the equipment and in general on the enterprise is performed. Following structural approach, all idle times can be separated on different groups, thereby suddenly opening numerous opportunities for interpretation of information, its accumulation and … interventions.

Types of idle times

  • Breakdown
  • Settings
  • Mini-stop
  • Reduction of speed
  • Defects at start
  • Defects by production

Equipment downtimes considerably worsen performance of any company. But idle times can have a set of the different reasons. Therefore, it is important to know as how many each machine and a production line can make and also how often and for what reasons there are idle times. About efficiency of the equipment it is necessary to have the developed control systems of the bottom level delivering information of real time on operation of the equipment for receiving up-to-date data. We can systematically write operating time and idle times and to obtain information, were or not idle times planned. However only trackings time it is insufficient. Actually production speed can cause a stir from planned – production can occupy more or less time.

For the automated analysis of the reasons of equipment downtimes at this stage there are several different systems:
