Beginning of sales of the portable AirZing air purifier
On October 13, 2020 the Osram company announced the beginning of sales of the portable AirZing air purifier. Using an ultraviolet light the device eliminates up to 99% of allergens, chemical issues, bacteria and viruses and fights against unpleasant smells. This device – the compact solution for disinfection in inside of the car and other closed spaces – from a clothes cabinet to a compartment of the train or a workplace at office.
According to the company, recently the question of hygiene and disinfecting purchased essentially value in life of people. Expensive hotels point to regular disinfection as competitive advantage, shops and beauty shops close for airing and disinfecting, at offices and at the enterprises install bactericidal recirculators. However care of own security will always be first of all the personal liability of the person, and emergence of the modern gadgets facilitating this task, quite naturally. The technological miniature AirZing device from the German brand became one of the first such devices in the market.
Normal air purifiers – for example, automobile saloon filters or room conditioners – use the principle of mechanical filtering. Air in them is banished via special filters which delay particles of pollution. Such filters do not provide efficiency of disinfection at very small particle sizes, such as viruses. Besides filters in them need to be changed regularly, otherwise over time they become an additional source of pollution.
AirZing from OSRAM works by other principle. The photocatalytic technology is applied to disinfecting of air in it: the device is equipped with ultra-violet LEDs which generate UVA radiation with the wavelength from 360 to 370 nanometers. Ultraviolet contacts to the filter from titanium dioxide therefore viruses, bacteria, the volatile organic compounds and particles bearing unpleasant smells are destroyed. Reaction happens in the closed body therefore it is possible to turn on the device in the presence of people – it is absolutely safe.
AirZing also destroys formaldehyde – volatile, toxic for the person, which contains in tobacco smoke, automobile exhausts, gas emissions of the industrial and chemical companies and can be selected from plastic and finishing materials, pieces of furniture and daily use.
Photocatalytic reaction does not spend device resources. AirZing works without replacement of components for several years: the device can be sorted, washed with water from under the crane, to dry and include again.
The OSRAM AirZing air purifier is the small device of the size of apple: its diameter – 8 cm, weight is 120 grams. The magnet which is built in the body fixes the device on the holder for the smartphone, it is possible to set AirZing on a ventilating grate of the meter panel of the car – fixture is included in the package. The gadget disinfector via the USB connector Type-S, including from the notebook is powered, consuming only 2.5 W of the electric power.
AirZing pumps over through itself six cubic meters of air per hour that does it suitable for use in the car. With its help it is also possible to eliminate foreign smells in kitchen and in the bathroom, to disinfect clothes and footwear in wardrobe. It is possible to purify air using AirZing even around a crib without concern to disturb the sleeping kid: device noise level – is less than 30 dB that is comparable to tick of the wall clock, and the area of the processed surface is up to ten square meters. The portable OSRAM air purifier is available on sale in Russia since October, 2020.
Entry into the Russian AirZing market
On August 10, 2020 the Osram company reported that it brings to the Russian market devices for disinfecting of air and surfaces indoors – devices of the next generation AirZing.
According to the company, AirZing devices use a short ultraviolet light (UF-c) bactericidal range with the wavelength of 253.7 nanometers. Such radiation destroys DNA/RNA of molecules of pathogenic organisms and deprives of them capability to be multiplied. Clinical trials proved that the devices similar to AirZing destroy up to 99.9% of pathogenic microorganisms, including the most dangerous viruses and bacteria. As stated in the report of International Ultraviolet Association, disinfection by means of the radiation of UF-S is effective, including for protection against COVID-19. Devices of public type which AirZing treat unlike devices of the closed type – recirculators, disinfect not only air, but also surfaces.
Application of AirZing is safe for people even if someone accidentally will appear in the UV-radiation zone. Devices are equipped with the infrared motion sensor which detects the person and switches-off the device, and function of the postponed start allows personnel to leave the processed premises prior to operation of the device. AirZing UF-devices meet the standards on environment protection adopted in Russia and the European Union countries. In them gas discharge lamps of low pressure OSRAM PURITEC HNS which do not cause formation of ozone are used and contain the minimum quantity harmful to the person and ecology of elements.
At use of open irradiators of a lamp can join and be switched off rather often as they can be used only in the absence of people indoors. Service life of lamps is reduced because of it. In the next generation of open AirZing UF-irradiators the technology of soft start of a lamp with preliminary warming up of electrodes is used, at the expense of it service life of lamps significantly increases.
For August, 2020 AirZing devices were installed in the largest hospital specializing in pulmonary diseases of infectious type, XTS Hospital in Beijing. In 2020 Osram began delivery of AirZing devices in hospital, accepting patients with a coronavirus. As of March, 2020 more than one thousand these devices worked in 45 hospitals in the Province of Hubei, including in 38 hospitals of Wuhan, one thousand more AirZing are set in XTS Hospital in Beijing where for August, 2020 there is one of the largest state centers for fight against COVID-19.
For August, 2020 in many countries of the world in large quantities the used means for fight against COVID-19 is chemical disinfection, however it has a number of shortcomings. Besides that chemical means at frequent or careless use can do harm to the person, they do not kill all pathogenic organisms, at the same time those from them that endured chemical disinfection, can mutate and create more aggressive strains. Disinfection of UF-S deprives microorganisms of an opportunity to be multiplied and create other, more resistant versions.
