2020: Kazakhstan builds the data center, largest in the CIS, for mining
On August 24, 2020 it became known of construction in Kazakhstan of the data center, largest in the CIS, for production of cryptocurrencies. Its power will be 180 MW, and in the long term the indicator will be increased to more than 400 MW. The Enegix company is engaged in project implementation.
The DPC which is under construction in the city of Ekibastuz can contain up to 50 thousand mining devices. The land plot under this object was provided by local authorities, and $24 million are invested in infrastructure.
Enegix signed the agreement on receiving the electric power with the operator of an electrical power system of the country "The Kazakhstan company on management of the electric networks".
According to the sales director of Enegix Dmitry Ivanov, this project will give to Kazakhstan good opportunities to become the world center for the mining companies. Unlike China where prices of electricity change depending on a season, costs for the mining center in Ekibastuz remain almost invariable within a year. Though clients of the center will be able to mine any cryptocurrencies, Enegix expects that most of them will get bitcoin.
In data center the Bitmain AntMiner S19 or MicroBT WhatsMiner M30 ASIC miners will be installed. It is expected that about 4% of the general hashrate of bitcoin (5-6 EH/s) will fall to the share of this DPC in Ekibastuz.
The government of Kazakhstan legalized mining of cryptocurrencies that does the market more attractive as for local, so and for foreign players. At the same time earlier central bank suggested to impose the general prohibition on cryptocurrencies. In June, 2020 in the country the law according to which miners are obliged to inform the authorities of o of the activity was adopted. Also it is emphasized that miners are legal owners of digital assets which they make.[1]
