2020: 2 years of prison for a medical error

The Leninsky district court of Novosibirsk at the end of August, 2020 sentenced the surgeon Andrey Titov to two years of prison and deprivation of the right to be engaged in profession of a physician for the term of two years for the death of the patient. Andrey Titov working in hospital No. 34 was found guilty according to Part 2 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (negligent homicide, owing to improper execution by the person of the job responsibilities).

According to RBC with reference to judicial materials, Titov as a result of an introduced error injured to the patient the tool a belly aorta owing to what blood loss because of which there came the death of the victim began.

The Novosibirsk surgeon Andrey Titov received 2 years of prison for the death of the patient from injury of an aorta during diagnostics

Incident occurred in November, 2018 during diagnostic transaction. At the woman suspected appendicitis, and diagnostics was required by a laparoscopy method. This method is considered low-traumatic as all manipulations with internals are carried out through a small puncture.

According to pathoanatomical opening, Andrey Titov selected atypical point of entry and a corner for a puncture.

Violations commonly accepted in practice of rules of performing laparoscopy by the operating doctor-surgeon Titov led to damage by Veresh's needle of a belly aorta of Stopicheva why at the last massive bleeding developed. At examination of a corpse of Stopicheva the chipped wound getting into an abdominal cavity with perforation of a small intestine and a wall of belly department of an aorta was revealed during surgery — the representative of the victims Yulia Stibikina (the quote by the Pretsedent edition) gave in court the expert's outputs.

Andrey Titov in the last word to court insisted that death patients resulted from accident, and asked completely it to justify.

The died Yulia Stopicheva was mother of two children. At the time of death 38 years were her.[1][2]
