2019: Scaling of infrastructure using DCImanager 

In 2019 hosting-provider FirstVDS integrated data centers and scaled infrastructure using the platform DCImanager.

The hosting provider solved a problem of management of thousands of items of equipment and several DPCs in different locations using the platform for control of the physical equipment from ISPsystem.

As a result of implementation of the platform the provider managed to scale business on 50 racks, having saved a uniform ecosystem for clients and integrity of infrastructure.

How to integrate two DPCs in a uniform ecosystem

Prerequisites

The FirstVDS hosting provider used DPC on 60 racks. The data center provided a full range of hosting services: lease of dedicated servers, virtual servers, cloud infrastructure. Control of data center was exercised by means of the DCImanager 5 platform from ISPsysytem. Used the solution for 12 years.

DCImanager helped: monitor multivendor infrastructure consider physical servers and manage them to automatically execute the majority of the main transactions

Project Task

With business development the provider was going to increase capacities to provide services to bigger number of clients. But in data center the space for the equipment came to an end, and the network topology did not allow to extend horizontally.

In implementation process of the project it was required to set and connect 2000 servers and 20 units of network equipment in 1 month. The FirstVDS hosting provider solved this problem using DCImanager — platforms for work with the physical equipment.

Key project deliverables

Thanks to the platform the administrator control two data centers in the single interface:

The provider received necessary tools for work with infrastructure in one platform: accounting of the equipment, monitoring, statistics, control of servers, networks and power supply and also creation of the user accounts of the different access level.

Operational informing on a condition of equipment prevents its premature wear, signaling at achievement of limits of power.

The monitoring system and notifications helps administrators to react to problems quicker. Remote access to supply systems and the equipment allows to recover quickly work after accidents.

The platform carries out the majority of tasks in the automatic mode. Using scripts the administrator will easily configure start of the repeating actions or the software installation. The platform minimizes errors of a human factor and saves time.

The provider had a possibility of expansion of infrastructure without influence on clients.

The quality of customer service, fault tolerance increased. On average the server is issued to clients in 10 minutes, and it does not require participation of employees, noted in ISPsystem.
