Rosreestr creates GIS of names of geographical objects

At the beginning of September, 2020 it became known of creation of the state information system of maintaining the State directory of geographical names which as the Federal Service for State Registration, Cartography and Cadastre (Rosreestr) states, will provide complete support of the documents necessary for assignment of names for geographical objects – from application before decision making.

Department notes that creation of GIS of maintaining the State directory of geographical names will facilitate obtaining information on names of geographical objects on the Internet.

Rosreestr creates GIS of names of geographical objects

Creation of the unified information system of names of geographical objects will allow to specify, update and digitize data, to make access to these data the most convenient, to optimize process of interaction in the field of assignment of names to geographical objects. It will become one of drivers of growth of economy of regions and territorial development of the country in general — the head of Rosreestr Oleg Skufinsky whose words are cited by Interfax specified.

According to him, due to the lack of convenient access to the State directory of place names work of cartographers becomes complicated, and it, in turn, leads to discrepancies and distortion in acts of public authorities that is inadmissible in terms of the legislation.

By the beginning of September, 2020 in the State directory of place names about 800 thousand names of geographical objects are placed (localities, the seas, islands, lakes, the rivers, streams, swamps, mountains, passes, objects of the railway and water transport and so forth). The state directory is a component of the federal kartografo-geodetic fund which is under authority of Rosreestr.^[1]
