On September 10, 2020 it became known that the British company Tesco starts the goods delivery using UAVs. Within this project the largest retailer of Great Britain began to cooperate with Manna company which specializes in the goods delivery using drones, for the organization of the 6-month test goods delivery of prime necessity from the shop in Oranmor (county Galway, Ireland) where Manna has the license for activity.
According to the The Guardian edition, delivery to clients of Tesco will be performed within at most three minutes taking into account that they are in 1.5 km from shop. Manna drones move with a speed of 80 km/h and are capable to perform the goods delivery to 4 kg. The UAV can return to shop several times at the request of the client. Testing is aimed at the market of "small baskets" which volume, according to the forecast of Tesco, in the next years in Great Britain will be 11 billion euros. In case of success the company is going to expand number of the shops participating in testing.
The chief executive of Tesco Dave Lewis noted:
| Manna already showed the capabilities, a question in how to us to adopt this opportunity and to implement it in Tesco. |
The chief innovation officer in Tesco Claire Loreyns told:
| We are interested in seeing how drones can prove on delivery to our clients of small baskets of goods on demand. If our testing with Manna is successful, we consider that we have an opportunity to attract even more clients who visit our shops in other regions and are interested in Manna. |
Manna already cooperates with network of Just Eat restaurants which in February, 2020 years started in Dublin the Europe's first service for delivery of take-away drones.[1]
