MTS will spend 7.5 billion rubles for purchase of a 5G equipment of Huawei

On September 11, 2020 MTS announced acquisition at Huawei of the equipment for start of networks of fifth generation (5G) in Moscow. The companies did not open a financial component of the contract, but Kommersant knows of it — according to the project of a source of the edition, familiar with parts, the Russian operator will spend about 7.5 billion rubles for purchase.

Within the project during 2020-2022 Huawei will supply and will install in MTS network the radio access equipment consisting of multiband portable radio modules and antenna systems of Massive MIMO and also the software for replacement of the operating hardware-software complexes 2G/3G/4G on all platforms in Moscow, in the cities and settlements of the Moscow region.

MTS hopes that project implementation will increase capacity and capacity of LTE network three times or more that will allow to meet demand of clients for growth of a data transmission traffic and also on new date service and services. In the future on the upgraded network it will be possible to unroll quickly a covering in standard 5G due to reconfiguration of the software and use of technology of dynamic redistribution of a frequency range between standards 4G and 5G. Upgrade will also promote optimization of infrastructure of network and decrease in operating expenses, the operator reports.

According to the vice president for the equipment of MTS  Victor Belov, the last three years the volume of traffic of the mobile Internet annually grows in network of the company of the capital region more than for 65%. By 2025 the operator predicts quadruple increase in volume of transmitted data due to development of IT, the increasing distribution of different sensors and the systems of the smart city and the house, he noted. Earlier MTS cooperated in the Moscow region with Nokia.[1]
