2020: Announcement of Advanced Air Cleaner - air purification systems in auto

In mid-September 2020, Volvo Cars introduced the Advanced Air Cleaner air purification system. According to the developers, their technology has no analogues in the world, since it is able to trap solid particles of the PM2.5 class (particles less than 2.5 μm). According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the high concentration of such particles is responsible for serious respiratory diseases.

Advanced Air Cleaner was developed by Volvo Cars and Blueair, which used an innovative multi-filter, a PM2.5 solid particle sensor and a high-voltage microparticle ionizer. The air in the car cabin is cleaned on the 95%, which is significantly higher than the standard established earlier for the intelligent IAQS system (particle 70%).

The built-in climate sensor measures the number of PM2.5 suspended particles in the cabin and provides this information to the driver - on the central display of the Sensus system, as well as in the Volvo On Call application, with which the owner of Volvo gets the opportunity to remotely assess the level of air pollution inside the car and clean it before the start of the trip. Particles from outside are ionized first, and then captured by a high-tech multi-filter. If the outside air is too contaminated, its supply is stopped and the function of recirculating and cleaning the air that is in the cabin is turned on.

In large cities, the concentration of PM2.5 particles can reach high values, which poses a health hazard. Due to their size, even without being poisonous or poisonous, they are able to penetrate deep into the respiratory organs and accumulate in the body, causing allergies, irritation with subsequent infection and other unpleasant consequences. That is why Volvo Cars pays special attention to the development of technologies such as Advanced Air Cleaner, which allows Volvo passengers to enjoy clean air in any situation.^[1]
