Nokia became solution provider 5G RAN for the Finnish operator Elisa in all territory of the country

2020: Delivery plans of the equipment for development of 5G networks

On October 1, 2020 Nokia announced that it the Finnish mobile operator Elisa selected Nokia national solution provider 5G RAN. Nokia will deliver to the customer the solutions from the AirScale 5G RAN family which will allow to provide services to broadband mobile communication with a high speed and a low delay to individual subscribers and corporate customers. This contract extends long-term cooperation between Nokia and Elisa companies to 5G networks. It will support the efforts of Elisa operator directed to digitalization of Finland.

To support digitalization of Finland, Nokia will deliver to the customer the flexible solutions of AirScale 5G of Radio Access expanding possibilities of mobile communication and also the additional solutions Massive IoT (for Internet of Things) and URLLC (Ultra-Reliable Low Latency – for reliability augmentation and decrease in cross-network delay). This transaction strengthens partnership of Nokia and Elisa which develops in such areas as reference networks, IP networks, telecommunication clouds and information technologies.

One of important parts of the project is migration of mobile network technologies. It is provided that radio systems will be able to support both subscribers of a 5G, and subscribers 4G in all territory of the country. By 2023 Elisa is going to close the 3G network even more actively to pass to services of a 5G.

This contract underlines ecological responsibility of Nokia and Elisa companies. Elisa became the operator who set the commercial base station of a 5G with water cooling. This solution will allow to reduce energy consumption of the base station by 30% and for 80% to reduce emissions of hydrocarbons in the atmosphere. Nokia for October, 2020 already delivered the products which are not polluting the environment, to more than 150 customers from the different countries. By 2030 Nokia is going for 41% to reduce emissions in the atmosphere at the enterprises.
