Space medicine is a set of medical sciences engaged in medical, biological, engineering and other scientific research, the purpose of which is to ensure the safety and optimal conditions of human existence during manned space flight or in outer space.
2020: FMBA has developed a strategy for the development of space medicine
On October 6, 2020, the Federal Medical and Biological Agency of Russia (FMBA) announced the development of a strategy for the development of space medicine. The corresponding statement was made by the head of the department Veronika Skvortsova at an online conference on scientific and practical research and the organization of biomedical experiments in space, as well as medical support for astronauts.
As part of the strategy, our leading scientists formulated a list of 17 scientific activities that are aimed at solving promising problems of research work - the study of the physiology of living systems at the genomic, molecular-cellular levels, the study of the peculiarities of the course of pathological processes in zero gravity, "said Veronika Skvortsova (her words are quoted by the press service" Roskosmos"). |
According to her, it is planned to develop special means for the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of astronauts during interplanetary flight and new methods and means for monitoring the safety of the habitat in space.
It is noted that the strategy may become a joint document for the FMBA of Russia and the state corporation Roscosmos, determining the development of space medicine.
The head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, suggested that tremendous efforts will be required in the future to adapt humans to long space flights. Therefore, the International Space Station needs to conduct more medical and biological experiments.[1]
