On October 9, 2020 it became known that the U.S. Army began testing of augmented rReality glasses for dogs. They are intended for remote control of animal trainers.
Usually trainers give commands to the dogs, using signals a hand or laser pointers, but these methods require direct visibility with a dog therefore the sufficient remote distance limits process of interaction with an animal.
Points with augmented reality from Command Sight company from Seattle will allow trainers to work with military dogs even at distance, without losing at the same time control. VR glasses have the built-in camera which far off transfers the image in real time and also the display which gives commands to dogs. In turn the cynologist, thanks to these points, itself sees the battlefield eyes of a dog.
As of the beginning of October, 2020 points are only a prototype. Command Sight is engaged in development of technology, process is supervised by Army research laboratory. Meanwhile this wire device, so the cynologist should be nearby, specialists still study reaction and behavior of dogs to make this technology of more effective.
The senior research associate of research laboratory of U.S. Army Stephen Li noted:
Augmented reality for dogs works differently, than for people. AR will be used to give dogs commands and signals; the dog should not interact with the device as the person. This new technology offers us the important tool for improvement of communication with military guard dogs. |
The system of augmented reality uses points from Rex Specs which dogs already carried for protection in extreme conditions. Command developers claim that each pair of glasses should be adapted to the owner, is for this purpose used 3D - scanning. Such approach allows to define, to place HUD for optimum angles of the overview where exactly. The company specifies that acquaintance to the Rex Specs specifications allows to adapt points easily.[1]
