Metalloinvest provided additional fault tolerance to the tsifrovoy platform

2020: Ensuring additional fault tolerance of the digital platform

On October 9, 2020 it became known. that "Metalloinvest", the producer and the supplier of iron ore products and hot-briquetted iron, one of regional steel producers, together with the company JSA Group (enters multi-profile IT- group "X Holding") implemented the project aimed at providing additional fault tolerance of the digital resources.

The uniform information core of the company forming a basis for the automated analytical systems, management systems for production processes and activity is unrolled based on the data processing center (DPC) on Oskol Electric Steel Works (enters into Metalloinvest company). Despite stable work and reliability of the main data center confirmed in practice, the decision to provide a possibility of reservation on geographically remote platform was made. At the same time it is not only about data protection from external encroachments, but also stable work of the IT resources which are responsible for business processes.

Loss of connectivity in data center and, as a result, impossibility of data recovery from spare equipment are improbable, but completely it is impossible to exclude such scenario, – the technical director of JSA Group Konstantin Zelenkov noted. – As the platform for cloud reservation it was selected by Microsoft Azure. It is used for creation of backup copies of the data critical for activity of Metalloinvest. Creation of the platform became an additional factor of reliability assurance and fault tolerance of a key resource of digital transformation of the company.

For October, 2020 JSA Group completes the works on construction of the second local DPC for problems of georeservation then risks assessment of loss of operability of the platform will be carried out and the decision on further development of the cloud reserve platform is made.

Metalloinvest for two last years implements the extensive program of digital transformation within which the key part is assigned to the IT platform. Providing a guarantee of its smooth operation is one of key tasks for the Company, – the director of digital transformation of Metalloinvest Management Company, the vice president of "IKS of Holding" Yulia Shutkina noted. – Deployment of the reserve platform in a cloud of Microsoft Azure took about four months. Copying and reservation of data in a cloud are absolutely transparent. The carried-out test switchings showed lack of any failures and stable functioning of all systems of Metalloinvest.

Use of the reserve platform in Azure – allows not only to provide stability, but also to save considerably due to use of the minimum configurations in a cloud, sufficient for processing of the entering replication of HANA. And though the scenario of failure of the main DPC is improbable, in need of switching to reserve DPC in Azure we will be able quickly to expand cloud resources for ensuring stable work of all business processes, – Alexander Lipkin, the director of the department of technology development and support of representative office of Microsoft in Russia told [1].
