In the middle of October, 2020 Mercedes-Benz, Bosch and commercial operator of garages Apcoa announced start of a system of the automatic parking of cars (AVP) in a garage of P6 of the airport of Stuttgart. According to car maker, the auto pilot for the parking of Intelligent Park Pilot which will allow the car to park without participation of the driver on the command transferred from the smartphone will be built in the Mercedes-Benz S-Class 2021 sedan.
In a garage of P6 of Stuttgart several places where users of AVP will be able to leave the machine are allocated. Having received confirmation that the car is ready to the parking, a system will move it to a basement garage. The parked car will remain there until the driver does not return from a trip and will not give to the car a signal to return on the parking outside a garage. Sale of tickets and payment of the parking will also be automated whenever possible to facilitate transition from the machine to the airplane and back.
Mercedes-Benz works on the project together with Bosch company. Video cameras of Bosch will be able to estimate fullness of space in a garage and to send this information to command center which will process the acquired information and will provide to the car an ideal route from a disembarkation point to the place of the parking. Earlier these data were collected using lidarny sensors, but Bosch provided own solution on the basis of the camera.
Mercedes and Bosch not for the first time address the idea of the parking without driver. In 2017 these companies provided an automated system of the parking for the sedans of the E class which are specially equipped for accomplishment of this task. At the same time Mercedes delivered cars with necessary technologies, and worked as Bosch with infrastructure opportunities. The new project became natural continuation of this experiment. Mercedes-Benz does not call specific terms of construction of a system, but reported that at first only two places will be open for the automatic parking. The others will appear depending on demand.[1]
