2020: Loss of a disk from these 14 thousand clients

On October 14, 2020 Resona Bank announced that its headquarters in Tokyo lost the magneto-optical disk containing data on 14,561 investors including their names and the addresses.

Representatives of division of the Resona Holdings bank which is based in Osaka noted that on the lost disk customer account numbers and also their phone numbers, data on money and passwords did not contain.

According to the The Japan Times edition, the bank stated that there are no proofs that the disk was stolen, any access attempt to data by strangers is excluded as the carrier is blocked using the password. Disappearance of a disk was revealed in August, 2020 at internal check.

Information on a disk was used for direct mailing. Resona Bank claims that it was gone after it was returned by the contractor. The bank regrets for loss, his representatives said that they will take proper measures of security, including the special training programs for employees designed to provide strict data management of clients will be organized.

It is not the first incident in Resona Bank. In 2007 in the Japanese bank there was a leakage of user data. Resona Bank lost confidential data and also data on payment transactions of nearly 1 million clients.

Loss was detected during exchange of annual reports between departments of Resona Bank in Tokyo and Osaka with data processing centers. During investigation of an incident which was organized by the central office of bank it became clear that protocols of terminals and ATMs, receipt and account receipts, tax deductions of clients of bank are lost. These documents contained names of investors, numbers of their accounts and other data. In total 27 Resona Bank branches were involved in an incident.[1]
