In the middle of October, 2020 Nokia signed the 5-year cloud contract with Google. Under the terms of the agreement which financial side does not reveal the Finnish producer of telecommunication equipment will transfer all the IT infrastructure to the Google Cloud environment.
As the vice president for global IT infrastructure of Nokia Ravi Parmasad explained Bloomberg, the company will refuse data centers and servers (own and leased) which appeared at it as a result of several acquisitions. Thanks to this transaction Nokia will be able to cut down expenses on the electric power and to stop buying the new IT equipment.
Infrastructure and applications of Nokia will work in a public cloud of Google or according to the SaaS model. Migration process already began and, as expected, will last from 18 to 24 months. Are involved several system integrators and IT specialists who will help Nokia to migrate in cloud infrastructure with the minimum interruptions in work to project implementation.
Within cooperation with Google the Nokia company will use several computing and network Google services of Cloud and also data warehouses. Specific products of Google are not called. Nokia only noted that these services will help the company "accelerate cost optimization, efficiency and reliability of work".
