2020: Start of data center for mining

In the middle of October, 2020 the operator of industrial mining BitCluster announced start of data center in Norilsk. There production of cryptocurrencies using 150 farms of Antminer S19 is organized.

As reported on the website of the company, in a data processing center under the name BitCluster Nord the modular DPCs intended for placement of modern S19 devices are placed. dopolnitelno the canopy for a cold corridor in which occurs podmes warm air is designed to exclude snow hit and also to protect the equipment from overcooling during the most fierce snowstorm. Further it is going to use additional workshop which is in a repair stage, told in BitCluster.

In Norilsk the large-scale mining farm is started

To the middle of October, 2020 the first stage of power — 11.2 MW is started. In the 2021st increase in an indicator up to 31 MW is planned.

The choice of the place for placement of the mining center is not casual. BitCluster specified that the region of the Far North is favorable for such activity because of the low temperatures allowing to save on cooling systems and also the cheap electric power thanks to the direct agreement with the Norilsk and Taimyr energy company.

On artificial cooling of buildings of data processing centers considerable energy costs are required, and in the Arctic territories of such problem will not arise – data centers will be cooled with a natural method, the chairman of city council of Norilsk Alexander Pestryakov noted.

The mining center is started in the territory of the closed nickel plant of Norilsk Nickel company. According to  the CoinDesk edition, Norilsk Nickel "actively investigates a blockchain and cryptospace and is going to sell the tokens provided with metals in the USA and Switzerland". The plant was stopped in 2016 because of the ecological reasons.[1]
