2020: Hit under sanctions of the USA

At the end of October, 2020 the Central Research and Development Institute of chemistry and mechanics (TsNIIHM) appeared under the American sanctions. The message about it published the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

According to information on the website of the department, restrictions on TsNIIHM were introduced within the law CAATSA ("About counteraction to opponents of America by means of sanctions"). The institute was included into the sanctions SDN list (Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons). With the organizations which got to it citizens and legal entities of the USA are forbidden to do business.

The Ministry of Finance of the USA imposed sanctions against the Russian scientific research institute, having accused him of cyber attacks to industrial facilities

The American authorities consider that the scientific research institute is connected with "the dangerous malware Triton" which was created allegedly in order that "cause damage and manipulate industrial security systems".^[1]

In recent years the malware Triton was used against partners of the USA in the Middle East —  reported  the ministry and added that the hackers who are standing up for Triton presumably used it for investigation on the American objects.

The enterprises in which TsNIIHM possesses 50 and more percent of a share also fall under sanctions. Foreign citizens can appear under sanctions of the USA at commission of certain transactions with the Russian company, it is told on  the website  of the Ministry of Finance.

The Government of the Russian Federation continues to conduct the dangerous activity in a cyberspace directed against the USA and our allies. This administration will aggressively protect crucial infrastructure of the USA from any who tries to break it, - the head of department Stephen Mnuchin said.

According to  the website  of Association of the state scientific centers, TsNIIHM is engaged in development of the knowledge-intensive products of dual and civil purpose for key branches of the industry and it is located in Moscow at the address Nagatinskaya Street, 16A.
