2020: Start of production of titanic bars for implants and surgical instruments

On November 10, 2020 it was announced the beginning of production of titanic bars which are used as semi-finished products at production of different implants and surgical instruments. These products are marketed at Chepetsk Mechanical Plant (ChMZ; enterprise of TVEL Rosatom fuel company).

The press service of TEVL reported that before the Russian producers of medical products are forced to purchase bars from multicomponent alloy titanium abroad that many times increases the cost of an end product.

In Russia production of titanic bars for implants and surgical instruments started

Products ChMZ confirmed compliance to international standards ASTM F136, ISO 5832-3, shown to materials for medicine. The qualification batch of titanic bars of ChMZ" passed tests at the Russian producer of medical products.

Titanic products for medicine – the sphere of high responsibility and social need. Today the Russian health care needs high-quality procurements for own import-substituting production of implants. Experience and competences of Chepetsk Mechanical Plant of production of hi-tech products from titanium allow to develop production and for needs of domestic medicine, - the CEO of ChMZ Sergey Chineykin noted.

According to the director of the Metallurgy business direction of JSC TVEL Andrey Andrianov, the titanic direction became one of engines of development of metallurgical business in Rosatom. Revenue from sale of titanic products is stated by the company approximately in 2 billion rubles a year. In addition to the different industries of mechanical engineering a perspective segment of the market is the medicine where to the Russian equipment manufacturers and implants it will be profitable, and at times and import substitution is just necessary, he noted.^[1]
