Europe buys 300 million doses of vaccines against a coronavirus from BioNTech and Pfizer

On November 11, 2020 Pfizer and BioNTech announced the conclusion with the European Commission of the delivery agreement of 300 million doses of vaccine against a coronavirus of COVID-19 developed by the companies.

The final agreement about deliveries with the European Commission represents the largest initial order of doses of vaccine for Pfizer and BioNTech today and an important step on the way to our common goal - to make vaccine COVID-19 available to vulnerable groups of the population — the chairman and the chief executive officer of Pfizer Albert Burla reported.

Europe buys 300 million doses of vaccines against COVID-19 coronavirus from BioNTech and Pfizer

At the first stage to EU countries 200 million doses of experimental medicine will be delivered. It is supposed that shipments of vaccine will begin by the end of 2020 on condition of successful clinical trials and obtaining permission of regulating authorities. Vaccine for the European Union countries will be manufactured on the platforms BioNTech in Germany and Pfizer in Belgium.

The European Commissioner for health care Stella Kiriakidis said that the European Commission will not allow any delays as soon as BioNTech and Pfizer and other companies submit documents for vaccine certification, scientific assessment of its security and efficiency will be provided. Meanwhile all citizens of the EU should observe scrupulously all sanitary measures entered in their countries in the near future, she added.

Earlier in November, 2020 Pfizer and BioNTech the first published data of clinical trials of vaccine according to which its efficiency exceeds 90%. In this regard vaccine has good chances of approval to the USA and the first request by the end of 2020, noted in the company. The head of World Health Organization Tedros Adkhan Gebreyesus called this message encouraging.

On November 11, 2020 Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko reported that Pfizer did not submit the application for registration of the vaccine against a coronavirus Russia of century[1] yet]
